6 Months Physical

Adrian had his 6 months physical today. Yes, it is a bit late since he's already 6 months and 3 weeks old. Pediatrician's office in Northern Virginia tends to book up fast. It's typically harder to make a Friday appt. because most parents prefer Fridays due to the fact that most children do have some sort of reaction to vaccinations. Adrian weighs 16 lbs and 6.8 oz - talk about exact!(50 percentile), his height is 27 3/4 inches (90 percentile), and his cranium circumference is 17 inches (25-50 percentile). Yes, he is still mommy's beanpole. Little man took his shots like a champ. He received 4 shots including one being the first set of flu shots. I cannot believe Fall/flu season is just right around the corner. Seems like just yesterday Adrian was born in the early Spring time. So four shots later and all he has to show is a mild fever and four lousy colorful band aids!

Adrian at 28 weeks

Adrian is just getting over a case of conjunctivitis. He's just going down the list of what he can pick up from daycare. What's next? lice? ewww, I know. Anyhow, our little warrior is doing well. Despite all he's been through he's still as cheerful and playful as ever. As you can see he's pulling up to standing. Sometimes it looks like he wants to stand up from sitting position. Most of us thinks he may be walking before Christmas....scary thought! Ever since he's become mobile I've been a nervous wreck. I just constantly think he's going to fall and crack his head open. Yeah, you want to tell me to lighten up? it's easier said than done. In this picture he's proudly sporting his war wound on his face.

Adrian is definitely showing more interest in Miko. He now crawls after her. I see a male version of Elmira in making-he really does love her. Poor little Miko seems to want to play but is still relunctant to come near Adrian. I wonder if one day she'll let go of her inhibitions. Adrian does speak but it sounds like blah blah blah....no joke, just like the nanny on The Muppets.

Adrian still has four toofs...yes toofs, not teeth. They're not big enough to call teeth so we're calling them toofs. Two top front toofs and two bottom front toofs. I'll try to get a picture to show you soon.

Mommy's Letter to Adrian

Dear little man,

I'm realizing that mommy needs to be doing a better job at documenting all your likes, dislikes and milestones. I don't even have your birth story written down somewhere. Your arrival into this world is still very fresh in mommy and daddy's heads but that will eventually fade as we make room for all other memories of you. So I will continue to write e-mails to update your family and friends and one day you can read about your childhood. Right now Miko is home from the vet recuperating from her impacted gland issue. Poor little dog had a little incident while we were out of town this weekend. Typically she would be vying for our attention but today she's defeated. The cell phone and LAN line keeps ringing [Excuse me, someone is at the door. Okay, I'm back.] - Karen, our nice neighbor collects diaper coupons for you. There's demanding work to do and thank you notes to write. Meanwhile, you're napping and fighting the evil teeth that's making your gum sore. This is what our life is like now, little man. It’s hectic, noisy and a little scary to outsiders, I think! but I promise you whatever else this house is full of, it’s full of love.

Right now your daddy is in the deep dungeon (aka…the basement) playing with superheroes, death knights and Lich King. Your daddy is a computer geek and he likes his computer at and off work. It’s quieter after you go to sleep — the phone stops ringing, nobody calls, really, except your daddy’s friends who call on his cell wanting him to play games with them. Your daddy is a very hard worker. Little man, the hardest worker I’ve ever met. But before you start thinking he’s a martyr of some sort, let me assure you he and his friends also do their fair share of playing too. They play video games and fantasy football and sometimes they go to the movies. Your daddy has a hard job, but he is very good at it and he has fun. I hope that whatever you decide to for a living, it’s something that you enjoy. Mommy works too, but mommy works with people. Daddy's brain is wired very differently than mommy's.

You have one dog, a mommy, and a daddy. You go to daycare while mommy and daddy go to work on the weekdays. Miko loves you and wants to stick her nose in everybody's business. I think you freak Miko out sometimes because you like to pull whiskers and facial fur. I hope you will always respect and love Miko like the way she does for you. You still don't sign at the age of 6 months. Sometimes you look at me like I'm crazy when I sign to you but I think one day you'll get it.

Although daycare rocks you to sleep we're going to work on teaching you how to put yourself to sleep. We put you in your crib still awake but tired. Every time you try to stand up or climb out of the crib we pick you up and lay you down. We usually do this for an hour. Little man, mommy is just as persistent as you! I want you to know we're here for you until you drift off to Never Never Land.

In the year 2008, we’re still all trying to figure out new technology that’s making its way into our lives. We love it — your mommy and daddy are gadget people — but sometimes this stuff is tricky. I think the social infrastructure isn’t quite there yet. But this is all stuff we can talk about when you’re older.

It’s chilly in the house tonight, daddy claims he's only comfortable when the AC is cranked to subzero (aka 70 degrees). He definitely is a Minnesotan! So I’m sitting here in my sweats and hidden under a big blanket typing on the laptop. The house is so cluttered. It’s always cluttered but it’s more so these days because your favorite thing to do is sit somewhere and in a single flourish, dump everything off onto the floor. It’s not my favorite game but I can deny you nothing.

I’ve been trying to keep up with the election as much as possible. Mommy and daddy do not agree with some of these politicians. Here’s hoping by the time you’re interested in politics, these people are no more than a footnote in the chapter of your history book that covers this election.

Oh man! I’m so looking forward to talking to you about history, politics, critters, superheroes, presidents, girls and stuff. I like you so much already, Adrian. Actually, I love you like crazy. You’re a funny guy — you laugh and babble a lot and you already try to make me laugh, which is the greatest thing in the world.

Here are some pictures of your beach adventure with friend Naomi. Hang on tight baby, this world is full of adventures and mommy and daddy will show you the world. There will be plenty more to see when you're a bit older but in the meantime let's work on you sleeping through the night!

However old you are when you’re reading this, I hope it gives you a little flavor of your life right now. Most importantly, I want you to know that you are loved. You’ve made my heart bigger than I ever thought possible, Adrian Otto. Thanks you for coming to live with us, Kid.

Love you,
Daddy and Mommy

Weekend of September 12, 2008

Adrian's trip to Dewey Beach, DE. Little man was indifferent about being on the beach. I think he did enjoy eating sand and seashells though. his taste buds must of gone wild for his first taste of salt.
